U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-Md.) introduced a measure Tuesday that ensures the right of an individual to display the U.S. flag on residential property. Bartlett announced the "Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005" (H.R. 42) on Flag Day. "I was alarmed to learn that some homeowners associations and condos prevent Americans from flying the American flag at their home," said Bartlett in a press release. "That's why I've introduced H.R. 42 to guarantee Americans the freedom to fly the American flag in front of their homes. This Act would restore every individual's right to show their allegiance to our great country by flying the Stars and Stripes," he added. Bartlett said he hopes that on Flag Day "all Americans take a moment to reflect on our blessings and pay gratitude to those who have made America the strong, free, fortunate nation it is." He said the American flag is "a symbol of centuries of perseverance, pioneering and patriotism.""
